Add an MCP server to ChatGPT
Connect a remote MCP server in ChatGPT. Or add the PlugMCP directory MCP so ChatGPT can search the catalog for you.
ChatGPT connects to remote MCP servers over HTTPS. Local stdio commands do not run inside ChatGPT. Open a listing that has a remote URL, or host your own server on PlugMCP and use that URL.
From a listing
- Open a listing that shows a remote URL. If the page is local-only, ChatGPT cannot run that command; pick a remote server or host a copy on
/host. - Copy the ChatGPT / remote URL from the install block.
- In ChatGPT, open Apps and connectors (or Settings → Connectors, depending on your plan) and add a custom MCP connector with that URL.
- Complete any sign-in the publisher asks for. Ask ChatGPT to list tools for that connector.
Auth headers, if the publisher needs them, go in the connector settings ChatGPT shows. PlugMCP does not sit in the middle of that call unless you host the server yourself.
Search the directory from ChatGPT
Add the PlugMCP directory MCP from /directory-mcp. That MCP searches the catalog and returns install configs. It is the MCP for MCPs. The same page has the ChatGPT install snippet. Broader connect steps live on /docs/connect.
For Cursor and Claude on the same listing, see /blog/add-mcp-to-cursor and /blog/add-mcp-to-claude. For VS Code, see /blog/add-mcp-to-vscode.
