MCP (Model Context Protocol) server for Azure DevOps work item management. Allows AI assistants to interact with Azure DevOps work items through a standardized protocol.

Windows

Download the appropriate .exe file:

• azure-devops-mcp-windows-amd64.exe (64-bit Intel/AMD)
• azure-devops-mcp-windows-arm64.exe (ARM64)

Add the binary to your PATH.

Build from Source

Configuration

Set the following environment variables:

export AZURE_DEVOPS_ORG_URL="https://dev.azure.com/your-org"
export AZURE_DEVOPS_PAT="your-personal-access-token"
export AZURE_DEVOPS_PROJECT="your-project-name"

Creating a Personal Access Token (PAT)

1. Go to Azure DevOps → User Settings → Personal Access Tokens
2. Create a new token with Work Items (Read & Write) scope
3. Copy the token (you won't see it again!)

Usage

Start the MCP server:

azure-devops-mcp

The server runs over stdio and follows the Model Context Protocol specification.

Configuring MCP Clients

Claude Code is Anthropic's CLI tool for developers with agentic workflows and deep codebase awareness.

Note: After adding the configuration, restart your MCP client for the changes to take effect.

Available Tools

• get_work_item - Fetch a single work item by ID
